Fishing Knots:  How To Find The Best Fishing Knots To Use

Fishing knots are an extremely important yet misunderstood component of fishing, and for good reason. There are a lot of different kinds of knots you can do depending on what kind of fishing you are doing, and each one is designed for a different purpose.

Generally speaking, the main kinds of knots used in fishing, particularly fly fishing, are known as the Arbor Knot, the Albright Knot, Nail knot, Double Surgeons, and Improved Clinch.

While going into all of these knots is out of the scope of this article, I will cover the most popular because these ones are essential and probably the ones you will be dealing with. the first one is the arbor knot.

For this, you first put the line around the reel arbor, and then tie a regular knot around the actual fishing line. From there, you just tie another simple knot in the tag end of the line, which will prevent the line from slipping.

Now, grab each side of the knot and yank hard to make sure there’s no slack in it, and then slide the first knot down the line and around the real arbor. While it might seem a bit complex at first, once you’ve done it a few times, it will be old hat.

Next up is the Albright knot. This is a rather simple knot utilized to get separate diatmers of the line together. This is accomplished by simply winding the loops slowly and smoothly around the loop of the larger line, and if you want to be extra careful and make sure it stays put, you might even put some rubber based cement over the knot to ensure it doesn’t go anywhere.
